Sunday 4 July 2021 – 10:00am – 2:00pm, Broadlands Estate, Romsey, SO51 8GG.  Registration from 9:00am.

With just 6 weeks until the Mountbatten Sunflower Walk 2021 now is the time to register to ensure your place.    The Sunflower Walk is a flagship event for Mountbatten Hampshire, your local hospice and end of life care service for Southampton and west Hampshire.

The event takes place at the Broadlands Estate, Romsey on Sunday 4 July 2021 between 10:00am and 2:00pm (Registration opens at 9.00am).   There is a five-mile walk and the option, if you cannot make it on the day, to ‘Walk the Sunflower Walk Your Way’ walking the five miles over a longer period.

Nigel Hartley, CEO of Mountbatten, said: “The easing of COVID restrictions and the fact that our Sunflower Walk is held in the open air and beautiful grounds of the Broadlands Estate gives use cause to be optimistic that the Sunflower Walk, one of our flagship events, will be able to go ahead this year.  This last year has been challenging for us all.  At Mountbatten, our vital work caring for those living with death, dying and bereavement has continued.  However, our usual fundraising efforts, which support our essential and growing work, have been curtailed.  Now you can help us, with your family and friends, by joining our Mountbatten Sunflower Walk on Sunday 4 July.”

Fundraising is vital to ensure Mountbatten can continue its essential work for the dying and bereaved:

  • £100 could provide a course of bereavement support sessions.
  • £200 could give someone a day of personal care, helping them remain in the comfort of their own home.
  • £250 could pay for a Mountbatten Nurse to be with a dying patient at home during the night.
  • £350 could pay for a 24-hour stay in a bed on our hospice ward.

Nigel continued: “We’re very grateful to the Countess Mountbatten of Burma for agreeing to a special opening of the Broadlands Estate at Romsey.   Taking part in the Sunflower Walk within the beautiful surroundings of Broadlands is a really special occasion and we are very grateful to everyone who participates to raise funds for Mountbatten Hampshire, your local hospice and end of life care service. Please do everything you can to join us on what will undoubtedly be a very special day”

Mountbatten Sunflower Walk participants are encouraged to sign up now via the Mountbatten Hampshire website.    The entry fee is only £23.50 for adults (18+) and £13.50 for children (5-17 years) which includes a T-shirt but it is participants sponsorship, fundraising and donations that  help us to raise much needed funds and will ensure that our expert teams can continue their important work for the growing number of people and families who need them.

Rebecca Billington, Staff Nurse at Mountbatten Hampshire said: “If you live in Southampton and west Hampshire, Mountbatten Hampshire is your local Hospice.  Every penny helps, and everyone’s support can help ensure that our services continue for those living with death, dying and bereavement.  By joining in, participants can remember their loved ones.”
