News, reports, events News Wayne's Walk A Mighty Mountbatten Hike will connect Southampton and Winchester for Mountbatten Hampshire In July, a group of fundraisers will take on the 15-mile Mighty Mountbatten Hike, from Southampton to Winchester, in aid of your local hospice, Mountbatten Hampshire. On 26 July 2026, Wayne’s Walk will be led by Eastleigh-based ICON Sports Coaching, which delivers professional sport training alongside a wide range of courses for children and adults, with an emphasis on inspiration. The team, led by Super-ICON participant, Wayne Taylor, will walk in memory of beloved friend Gillian, a Saints Fan who attended ICON’s sports training sessions for over ten years and who died in the care of Mountbatten Hampshire. Wayne and other supporters will set off at 9.30am, from Mountbatten’s furniture shop and warehouse on Crosshouse Lane, near the Itchen Bridge. They are hoping to finish at 3pm, at Mountbatten’s Winchester shop on Jewry Lane, taking in Southampton FC’s St Mary’s Stadium, the River Itchen and Winchester Cathedral, along the way. Sam Phillips from ICON was among those to run from AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium to St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton. In 2025, Sam also completed the Jurassic Coast 100km Continuous Challenge, together with his friend, Declan Grant. Sam Phillips, from ICON sports, said: “I’m really proud to be supporting the legend that is Wayne with 'Wayne’s Walk: A Mighty Mountbatten Hike'. He came up with the idea of taking on a physical challenge himself, in honour of his friend, Gilly. We’re hoping to raise awareness of the new Mountbatten Hampshire charity shop in Winchester — we’re just taking the long way there! We would love you to join us, too, for all or part of this walk, as we try to raise vital funds for Mountbatten Hampshire’s hospice care.” Wayne Taylor said: “I’m really excited for this 15-mile challenge in aid of Mountbatten Hampshire. I’ve never walked or jogged this far before, but it’s for a great cause. Please donate if you can, and give us a beep if you see us along the way!” Mountbatten Hampshire provides 24/7 care, 85 per cent of which is delivered in homes across Southampton and large parts of the county. The rest of its specialist services are delivered through its inpatient unit in West End, Southampton and day services at the Frances Sheldon Centre community space. Manage Cookie Preferences
