Caring for People Living with Dementia: Enhancing Awareness

Aim

To increase knowledge and skills to care for people affected by dementia.

Participants

Suitable for anyone working in health and social care settings.

Methods

Presentation, discussion, interactive rehearsals/demonstrations, simulation and small group work.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this short course, participants should be able to:

describe what dementia is and how it affects people (including significant others, families and carers)
be aware of the support needs of people living with dementia
explore communication and behaviour challenges and have strategies to manage these
consider the impact of the environment on a person living with dementia
