Congratulations to our Mountbatten Hampshire volunteer John Sutton, who received an MBE in the King's New Year's honours list.

John, 76, was recognised for his work supporting charities for the last 50 years. John and his wife, Jenny, also a Mountbatten
volunteer, have been organising concerts around the UK and abroad in support of many charities, including Mountbatten.

This year, on 2 September, they are organising their latest event, Come and Sing, The Armed Man, A Mass for Peace, at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Romsey. Both Mountbatten Hampshire and Mountbatten Isle of Wight will receive a share of the proceeds.

On receiving the news, John said: "I was surprised and delighted. "It’s a cliché, but nonetheless a truth, that, although my name is attached to it, the award comes as recognition of everyone who has had the pleasure and privilege of singing and playing and supporting so many wonderful concerts in the UK and abroad, and in performances for various charities over the past 50 years.

"My heartfelt thanks to friends, past and present, who made it all possible (many thousands of you!). Here’s to enjoying more
music-making together in 2023 and beyond."

Volunteers like John help us care for over 1,000 people every day across Southampton and large parts of Hampshire. Find out more about volunteering with Mountbatten here.
