Aim: 

  • To enable learners to identify the key principles underpinning high quality Palliative and End Of Life Care
  • To enhance knowledge and skills in the delivery of high-quality Palliative and End of Life Care.

Participants: Suitable for everyone working in health and social care settings.

Methods: Presentation and discussion.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define palliative and end of life care
  • Describe how to recognise dying and identify the priorities of care in the last days of life
  • Discuss what to do when someone enters the dying phase including practical care of the dying person
  • Discuss ways to manage symptoms as end-of-life approaches, including non-pharmacological interventions
  • Review Holistic Care in relation to Palliative and End of Life Care
  • Explain how to support families through end-of-life care
  • Discuss support available for Care Staff – including psychological support
