When you arrive at the hospice, you will be welcomed by our Reception team who will show you to your bed.  We have five bays, each with three beds, and seven private side rooms.  The nursing team will allocate you a bed based upon your clinical need.  We try not to move people around, but on occasions this is necessary.

We have a lovely garden that you can enjoy and the Hazel centre where our day services are with daily activities and a café.  Whilst you are an inpatient with us at Mountbatten, you can still go out with friends and family, we just ask you to let us know.

You will be admitted under the care of either an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Consultant who will review you at least weekly. Our multidisciplinary team will meet daily to ensure your needs are met and the right people are involved in your care.

We also try to personalise your care and tailor it to meet your needs, wishes and preferences within the hospice – so it is important for you to tell us what matters to you

A day in the life

We offer a very flexible daily ward routine depending on your personal needs. We serve a full range of meals and cater for all dietary requirements, and at meal times you may be assisted by one of our volunteers if you need help to eat.

During your stay, you can receive a daily newspaper if requested and we offer liquid refreshments including an alcoholic beverage if appropriate, prior to lunch and dinner.

Our friendly volunteers also provide assistance and a welcoming smile at the reception desk and tea bar for as much of the day as possible.
